Sprout! Into the Mirror

Sprout! Into the Mirror is a free third-person soulslike adventure game about an adventurous Sprout on a quest to save the world. It is heavily inspired by similar games like Tunic, Legend of Zelda and Dark Souls.

Foreword

This game was developed in just 3 months following a 6-month course, despite having zero knowledge in game development. As a first-time developer, I am extremely pleased with the outcome. While some assets were used for decoration to speed up the development process, the core assets were custom-made. I have no intention of continuing this project. I have learned a lot since day one and numerous areas can be improved drastically. However, with the knowledge I have gained, I would rather start a fresh project than to continue upon this one.

I hope to at least bring a smile to anyone that plays this small demo of a game. Feedback is always appreciated.

I want to express my gratitude to my mentors for teaching me a wide range of things about game development, and guiding me during this project.

The Story

The world once knew peace, until an evil Spirit emerged from an enchanted obsidian mirror. Driven by its insatiable thirst for power, the spirit had dispatched its minions through several other enchanted mirrors, spreading chaos and destruction throughout the land.

One day, an adventurous green Sprout looking for new discoveries, happened to fall into an old and abandoned ruin. Looking for a way out, the sprout stumbled upon a room containing a single, peculiar mirror.

Peering into the mirror, the sprout couldn’t see his own reflection and in a blinding flash, it was transported to a surreal mirror world, where an unknown spirit took the form of the sprout’s reflection.

The reflection revealed that it had been fighting the evil spirit for a long time, but had been defeated and trapped inside inside the mirror. The only way to vanquish the spirit from this world was to destroy all the enchanted mirrors, each guarded by one of the villain's generals. It was a dangerous and daunting task, but the spirit needed the sprout's help to accomplish it.

Together, the sprout must gain new skills and abilities to overcome the generals and put an end to the invasion, restoring peace to the world once more.
